Wellbeing

At St. Mary’s we know that welfare and wellbeing are extremely important. A child is not able to learn or a teacher, teach, unless they feel secure and settled. For this reason, we have introduced many initiatives to help support both staff and pupil wellbeing. This page gives you some insight but if you would like to know more contact school and we will be happy to talk you through what we do.

Above all, St. Mary’s is a Christ centred community. As such we follow the teachings of Jesus; “treat others as you would like to be treated”. The open, caring ethos this creates means everyone listens and everyone cares. Nobody is left to struggle by themselves.

Growth Mindset

As a school we have taken on a Growth Mindset. This is an understanding that we may not be able to do something “yet” but if we keep trying we will get there. This is a positive approach to learning that celebrates effort and encourages children and staff to support each other to improve.

Compass Buzz

All staff received level 1 and 2 training to help support wellbeing. This included knowledge of the 5 ways to wellbeing and assessment strategies to help identify emotional needs. Two members of staff also received level 3 training so that they could carry out more focused pastoral work.

Thrive

At St Mary’s we have trained practitioners who share the Thrive mission to help children become more emotionally resilient and be better placed to engage with life and learning. We do this through our whole-school approach to wellbeing which will improve attendance, behaviour and attainment.
