St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, a Voluntary Academy is a Church aided school in the Diocese of Leeds and is part of the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust (BKCAT). This means that the members of the Parish and the Diocese of Leeds have contributed towards the cost of building the school and continue to care for its buildings and its people.

The school provides distinctive Christ centred, Catholic education for children aged 4+ to 11+ years, with priority being given to children who live and worship within the parish of St Mary’s.

It is a Voluntary Academy in which the Academy Council is responsible for admissions. It is guided in that responsibility by the requirements of law, by advice from the Diocesan Trustees and its duty to the Catholic community and the Common Good.

Please note that admission to St Mary’s Catholic Primary School does not guarantee admission to Holy Family Catholic High School, which has its own admissions policy.

The admission number for 2023/24 is 30.

Our main priority is to provide an education for Catholic children, but we do welcome requests for admission to the school from parents of children who are members of other faiths or no faith.

In expressing a preference for St Mary’s, parents/carers are declaring their support for the aims and ethos of the school. Whenever there are more applications than places available, priority will always be given to Catholic applicants in accordance with the over -subscription criteria listed in the admissions policy.

A standard application form, known as the Common Application Form (CAF), must be completed and returned to the Local Authority, (see below) by 15th January 2024. Please use the following link to access the North Yorkshire County Council Admissions Website, which includes access to an online application form.

The Supplementary Information Form is available here and should be submitted by to the Headteacher, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Baffam Lane, Selby, YO8 9AX no later than 15th January 2024.

Please use the link at the top of this page to download a full copy of the School Admissions Policy, which includes information on criteria for admissions and a copy of the Supplementary Information Form.

Applicants are requested to note that applications that do not include a completed Supplementary Information Form may be considered to be in the final criteria for admission to school. Please contact us on 01757 706616 if you require any help in applying for admission or require a Supplementary Information form.

CAFS should be sent to:
Children and Young People’s Service, Jesmond House, 31-33 Victoria Avenue, Harrogate, HG1 5QE.

The Local Authority (LA) requires parents to complete an online In Year CPF so they can track pupils that are requiring In Year places, in addition to completing a SIF and return directly to the school.

Once the school receives an In Year application either via the LA or directly to the school the parents receive a written response to their application within 15 school days, informing them of the outcome of their application, where refused set out the reasons for refusal and information regarding their right of appeal.

The school will also inform the LA of the outcome within 2 school days, this enables the LA to undertake their statutory duty by ensuring all pupils have an accessible school place as quickly as possible.

The County Council Common Application Form provides the opportunity for parents/guardians to express up to three choices of schools in rank order of preference. You are invited to submit up to three ranked preferences on the Common Application Form. Applications will be considered on an Equal Preference basis.

Although the law does not require children to be admitted to school until the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday, the Academy Council being the admissions authority for this school, will admit children into school as follows:

Children whose fifth birthday falls between 1st September 2024 and 31st August 2025 will be admitted at the beginning of the Autumn Term in September 2024.

Late applicants can ring the Harrogate Office, or contact school directly for advice.
